A partial list of some of the publishers of newsletters, books and videos about fireworks. All prices for subscriptions are US$ postpaid in the USA, unless otherwise noted! All are in alphabetical order as well.

None of these carry or will provide information on where to get any "cookbooks" for "recipes" or other such nonsense. These sources provide information about safety, regulations and legitimate use of explosives or fireworks and nothing else!

The best source for newsletters, books and videos about fireworks! Anyone who is interested in fireworks should start here first. The monthly newsletter American Fireworks News, the Best of AFN II and the Best of AFN III and George Plimpton's Fireworks: A History & Celebration all basics everyone interested in fireworks should have.

The monthly newsletter Fireworks Business has all the latest news for those interested in what is happening in the trade. The annual Fireworks Buyer's Guide & Trade Directory and International Trade Directory both provide who has what and how to contact them.

The AFN Video Magazine is a quarterly video with info of all types about fireworks around the world. Then there is the AFN video series which has everything from Operator's Shooter's Course to Palm Tree Shell Construction with step by step instruction on fireworks construction methods to Indoor Fireworks Applications, all by some of the best pyros in the business!

AFN also carries the A&E Fireworks! The Magic of Pyrotechnics hosted by George Plimpton. This 100 minute documentary first broadcast in 1994 takes you on a tour of the world's leading fireworks factories and shows with some of the amazing history.

And AFN is now the exclusive distributor of the International Symposium on Fireworks Proceedings.

A biennial magazine about fireworks. Primary focus is fireworks in the UK but articles come from around the world. Lots of information, history, current company listings and ads. A must for anyone who loves pyrotechnics!

Institute Makers of Explosives (IME)

The IME publishes standards and safety guidelines that are the basis for many federal and state requirements, such as the Construction Guide for Storage Magazines, American Table of Distances and Safety Guide for the Prevention of Radio Frequency Radiation Hazards in the Use of Commercial Detonators (Blasting Caps). Most of these are geared for commercial explosives and blasting agents, however much is applicable to fireworks too.

International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE)

The ISEE Blaster's Library includes an extensive number of books, pamphlets and videos. The majority of them apply to commercial explosives used in blasting and demolition, but others may be of interest to pyrotechnicians as well.

The Journal of Pyrotechnics. A first class technical publication covering the science of pyrotechnics with various authors from around the world. Publishes in July and December.
Pyrotechnic Reference Series are publications that every serious pyro will use almost daily.
The Illustrated Dictionary Pyrotechnics Hundreds of definitions, illustrations and diagrams!
The Lecture Notes for the Chemistry of Fireworks (1 &2) are the basics of a course taught around the world on the chemistry and physics of the most entertaining of performance arts.
The Lecture Notes for Fireworks Display Practices (1 &2) are exceptional books which covers the many hundreds of technical and practical things every display operator needs to know.
Pyrotechnic Literature Series provide more information and detail on specific subjects.
Selected Pyrotechnics Publications of KL and BJ Kosanke (1, 2 & 3) includes articles published from 1981-1993 by these eminent pyrotechnic authors. Everything from Aerial Shell Burst Altitudes to Basics of Hazard Management to A Collection of Star Formulations are included.
All are highly recommended for anyone interested in the art and science of pyrotechnics.
